The study visit programme was part of the 1st Prize of the Award. Organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan, the visit provided an opportunity to learn about Japan ™s ESD practices, especially how they are put to work in schools. They also visited Tokyo Toy Museum, as well as Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Uryu Elementary School where they participated in classroom activities and cultural exchange sessions with fellow students and teachers.

HE Mr Hiroshi Hase, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan also welcomed the students and teachers during a courtesy visit.

SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award is a joint initiative between Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and MEXT to promote ESD practices in schools and communities in Southeast Asian countries. Since 2012, the award has been held annually under various themes to reflect emerging ESD issues in the region. 

The winners of the SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award in 2015 under the theme of œSafeguarding Our Cultural Traditions  are Sekolah Kebangsaan (Perempuan) Methodist, Kuantan, Malaysia, (1st   Prize Winner); Nguyen Dinh Chieu Inclusive Elementary and Secondary School, Vietnam (2nd  Prize Winner); No. (1) Basic Education High School, Dagon, Myanmar (3rd Prize Winner);   Krousar Thmey School for Blind or Deaf Children in Kampong Cham, Cambodia (Special Prize for Small Schools); and Alloy Elementary School, Philippines (Special Recognition for Small Schools)
