BACKGROUND

On 30 November 2021, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) marks the 56th anniversary of its operation. As a regional inter-governmental organization established among Southeast Asian countries, SEAMEO takes pride in its achievements over the years as Southeast Asian’s leading organization in promoting regional cooperation and human resource development in education, science, and culture, through the mandates and commitments of 26 SEAMEO Regional Centres, located in the Southeast Asian countries.

To celebrate the 56th Anniversary of SEAMEO and to purposefully start the new decade of SEAMEO Strategic Plan, the SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with the SEAMEO Regional Centres will conduct a SEAMEO Symposium on SEAMEO Centres: Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow, and the Launch of SEAMEO CARES Toolkit on Remote Teaching and Learning on Thursday 25 November 2021 at 09.30-11.30 hrs (Bangkok Time) via the SEAMEO Youtube Live Channel.

The forum aims at discussing the most remarkable achievements and present the future plans of SEAMEO Regional Centres for the development of education, science and culture for the Southeast Asian countries.  The Directors of SEAMEO Regional Centres will also highlight their contributions and discuss forward-looking innovations that could reshape the region in a post-COVID world.

In addition, the Symposium will serve as a venue to launch a SEAMEO new initiative for youth called “SEAMEO Youth ConneX”. The SEAMEO Youth ConneX aims at enhancing SEAMEO communication capability by exploring and exploiting popular communication platforms for youth such as ClubHouse and TikTok.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the SEAMEO Symposium are:

  • To commemorate the SEAMEO’s achievements and highlight its significant future plans and fast-looking innovations that could reshape the Southeast Asian region in a post-COVID world;
