SEAMEO-University of Tsukuba join hands in Teacher e-Training Series

Bangkok, 26 May 2022: The Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED) of the University of Tsukuba, Japan in partnership with the SEAMEO Secretariat launched the SEAMEO-Universities of Tsukuba Teacher e-Training Series which were open for free for teachers and educators in Southeast Asia and beyond to learn from the distinguished professors and experts from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Chile, Mexico and Southeast Asia.

The three Teacher e-Training Courses included as follows: 

  1. Disaster Prevention and Education in Asia: Perspectives from Geography Education, scheduled for 6 sessions from 28 May to 25 June 2022, every Saturday at 13.00 -13.50 hrs. 
  2. Constructivism in Education: Perspectives from International Baccalaureate, scheduled for 6 sessions from 28 May to 25 June 2022, every Saturday at 15.00-16.30 hrs,    
  3. Mathematics Education to Develop Student Agency, scheduled for 16 sessions 28 from 28 May to 10 September 2022, every Saturday at 17.00 hrs 

To provide the clear course content, expectations and online platform which would be benefited to the registrants and interested participants, the Launching and Course Orientation was broadcasted via the SEAMEO YouTube Channel on 26 May 2022 with over 3,900 participants during live. 

The orientation included course content introduction by the three course producers from the University of Tsukuba, namely, Prof/Dr Yoshiyasu Ida, Dean of Faculty of Human Sciences; Assoc Prof/Dr. Jun Kawaguchi, Faculty of Human Sciences; and Prof/Dr Masami Isoda, Director of CRICED.  The presentations on the navigation of e-learning platform and the Japanese Virtual Campus or JV campus (Massive Open Online Course Platform) were also introduced to the YouTube participants.

After the launching, the SEAMEO-UT online courses had reached the attention of Southeast Asian educators and beyond with approximately 9,764 participants registered to learn from the online courses.

The University of Tsukuba (UT), Japan is one of the SEAMEO Affiliate Members since 2009.   Since its inception, the University of Tsukuba of Japan has been one of the most active SEAMEO Affiliated Members which has developed various teacher development programmes, particularly in Science, Mathematics and Teacher Education, as well as professional and student exchange programmes through the partnership with the SEAMEO Regional Centres and SEAMEO Secretariat.
