SEAMEO, New Zealand hosts 2nd Master Class on Digital Revolution for Education

Bangkok, 24 May 2022: The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with Education New Zealand (ENZ) hosted the 2nd SEAMEO-New Zealand Master Class on Digital Revolution for Education virtually at 09.00-11.00 hrs (GMT+7/Bangkok Time) on 24 May 2022 streaming live via the SEAMEO Secretariat YouTube channel. More than 4,000 participants, including policy makers, ministry officials, school leaders, specialists, researchers, lecturers, teachers, students, and general public from Southeast Asian countries and beyond attended the event.

Following the success of the 1st Master Class in 2021, Education New Zealand continues to cooperate with SEAMEO to host the 2nd Master Class in 2022. Aiming to share the up-to-date technologies and innovative solutions for education in the digital age, the Master Class highlighted the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) presented by experts from New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Dr Ethel Agnes Pascua Valenzuela, the SEAMEO Secretariat Director, and Mr Ben Burrowes, Regional Director - Asia, Education New Zealand, reaffirmed in the welcome message that the Master Class will enable audience to better understand how these technologies can effectively support and be applied in education, teaching, and learning.

The 2nd SEAMEO-New Zealand Master Class is one of the SEAMEO-Partner series that intends to develop a platform where key players from education stakeholders and industry can share initiatives, knowledge, and efforts to address education disruptions during the pandemic in Southeast Asia. The virtual series benefitted to school/TVET/university teachers and educational personnel.

New Zealand has officially been admitted as the SEAMEO Associate Member Country since 1973. Throughout the long relationship, New Zealand through the Ministry of Education has contributed scholarships, short-term consultancies and funding for special courses for Southeast Asian educators and students.
