Virtual SEAMEO Awarding Ceremony in cooperation with the Government of Canada and Japan

The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with the Government of Canada and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan virtually organised the SEAMEO Awarding Ceremony of 2021 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award and SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award 2021/2022 on Thursday 11 November 2021 at 09.00-11.00 hrs (GMT+7). 

The Awarding Ceremony was honored by the congratulatory messages from H E Dr Leonor Magtolis Briones, Secretary of Education and Vice President of SEAMEO Council, Department of Education, Philippines; Mr Lai Chung Han, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education of Singapore; Dr Ir Suharti, Secretary-General Ministry of Education, Culture, Research & Technology, Indonesia; and Datuk Yusran Shah bin Mohd Yusof, Secretary-General, Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

The winner of SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award 2021/2022, under the theme “Addressing the Education Crisis: Intervention Programmes for Mitigating Learning Gaps and Learning Loss” is Dr Sally Baricaua Gutierez, from the Department of Graduate Studies and Transnational Education at the Far Eastern University, the Philippines, with her winning research study on "Collaborative lesson planning as a positive "dissonance" to teachers' individual lesson planning practices: Characterizing the features through reflections-on-action."  

 

 

The Plaque of Recognition to the winner of the SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award was presented by H E Dr Sarah Taylor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, the Embassy of Canada, in Thailand, and Dr Ethel Agnes Pascua Valenzuela, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat.

 

 

The winners of 2021 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award, under the theme “Securing Educational Opportunities in COVID-19 Crisis” are as follows:

  • 1st Prize Winner: Kranji Secondary School, Singapore
    Project Title: The World is My Classroom

  • 2nd Prize Winner: Sabilina Elementary School, Bekasi, Indonesia 
    Project Title: Rise and Shine in ICT Utilisation during COVID-19 Crisis

  • 3rd Prize Winner: SM Sains Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
    Project Title:  Mental Support Programme Series

  • Special Prize Winner of the best programme carried out in small schools of less than 250 students:  SJKT Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
    Project Title: COVID-19 Education Revolution

 

 

Mr Yasushi TAGUSHI, Director General for International Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan was invited to deliver an announcement message.  The plaques of recognition were presented by Mr Takahisa Murakami, Director, Office for International Strategy Planning, MEXT, Japan and Dr Ethel Agnes Pascua Valenzuela, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat.

 

 

The 2021 SEAMEO Awarding Ceremony was witnessed by approximately 300 participants from Japanese Embassies in Southeast Asian countries, ministry representatives, teachers and students of the winning schools. A summary of the SEAMEO Awarding Ceremony in the multimedia format was officially presented at the 44th SEAMEO High Officials Meeting (Virtual) on 30 November 2021.
