BANGKOK, 9-10 January 2020 -- The Southeast Asian Countries have set for themselves the goal of achieving an integrated ASEAN Community. Through this goal, SEAMEO outlined its SEAMEO Strategic Direction from 2011 to 2020. The SEAMEO Strategic Plan played a role in influencing SEAMEO Centers and Network in the implementation of their respective Five-Year Development Plans with concrete targets and priorities.

At the end of the decade, SEAMEO Secretariat with SEAMEO Regional Centres reviewed the achievement and challenges under the Strategic Plan 2011-2020.  With the global aspiration for Sustainable Development Goals, SEAMEO has reshaped and redirected its goals forming the SEAMEO Education Agenda 2015-2035.

From 9 to 10 January 2020, the SEAMEO Secretariat held a Consultative Meeting on the development of the new SEAMEO Strategic Plan covering 2021-2030, including the re-thinking on Agenda for Science and Culture. This meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand at the Avani Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel.

Now more than ever, SEAMEO has to address the three pillars of regional cooperation- Education, Science and Culture. The workshop served as a platform for the deliberation of priority areas for Science and Culture under the SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-2030. The regional experts and thought leaders from  SEAMEO Member Countries and development partners helped shaped the new AGENDA of SEAMEO for the next decade.
