SEAMEO -- Spain Programme of Cooperation

Spain became a SEAMEO's eighth Associate Member Country on March 14th 2007 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia during the 42nd SEAMEO Council Conference and 2nd ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting following Spain's request to join the organization.

As a part of a national plan to increase the presence of Spain in Asia, SEAMEO has become an ideal forum to promote the Spanish Educational System in the Region and to establish long lasting cooperation with key educational institutions in South East Asia.

Spain has been providing a number of summer scholarships for Spanish teachers working at the member countries and will expand areas of collaboration.

Spain's goal in joining SEAMEO is to create a collaborative network and to help students receive an education tailored for the citizens of the 21st in a global community.

SEAMEO and THE KINGDOM OF SPAIN

  1. Will jointly set priorities in establishing collaborative arrangements with the various units of SEAMEO for projects and activities in SEAMEO's areas of competence.
  2. Will identify and establish linkages with lead institutions of Southeast Asia and Spain for setting direction of projects and activities, including academic exchanges, and the joint organization of conferences and similar forums, and will jointly facilitate such exchanges and activities.
  3. Will review annually the progress and executive of cooperative projects and activates once the process of study and consultation with SEAMEO in the annual meetings of High Officials is completed.
