SEAMEO Centre Directors Meeting 2015 Convened

The CDM 2015 was followed by The Mid-Term Review Meeting on 10 June 2015 at Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & SPA in Bankok, Thailand to analyzed lessons learned through the implementation of SEAMEO Strategic Plan (2011-2020) and assessed the challenges.

The Meeting was organized by the SEAMEO Secretariat and was attended by 83 participants, comprising 21 SEAMEO Centres/Network and the SEAMEO Secretariat, representatives from three SEAMEO Affiliate Members and nine Partners.

Other meeting attendees include representatives from SEAMEO Affiliate Members, namely, the British Council, the University of Tsukuba, and Chain Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). Invited presenters and observers also participated including the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI), EDC, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan, ASEAN-China Centre(ACC), ASEAN Secretariat, Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI), UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, and UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO).

The CDM serves as platform for discussion among SEAMEO Centres on programmatic and operational issues, as well as a venue to engage partners for collaborative initiative for the region. The result of CDM 2015 will be submitted to subsequent relevant SEAMEO meetings such as the SEAMEO High Officials Meeting and SEAMEO Council Conference. Relevant agenda items and agreements will also be presented to the Governing Boards of the SEAMEO Centres.

Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat and Chair of the SEAMEO Centre Directors Meeting 2015 warmly welcomed the participants to the meeting and informed that this year is the paperless conduct of CDM to support environmental sustainable development. He emphasized that the active collaboration among the SEAMEO Centres/Network and with Affiliate Members and Partners through the annual Centre/Network Directors Meeting will further elevate the efficiency and effectiveness of Centres/Network in the planning and implementing of relevant projects/programmes in the coming years.

The special session for the SEAMEO Center/Network Directors

The Special Session for SEAMEO Centre/Network Directors was held on 8 June 2015 as part of the CDM 2015. It was convened for the SEAMEO Centres/Network to discuss on Inter-Centre Collaboration Programme and a Communication Strategy between SEAMEO Centres/Network.

The SEAMEO Centres/Network were divided into 4 groups for the purpose of discussing future Inter-Centre collaborative activities.

Group 1: SEAMEO BIOTROP, SEAMEO QITEP in Language, SEAMEO RECSAM, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC and SEAMEO VOCTECH

Group 2: SEAMEO CELLL, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, SEAMEO RELC, SEAMEO SEARCA and SEAMEO TROPMED Network

Group 3: SEAMEO CHAT, SEAMEO QITEP in Science, SEAMEO RETRAC and SEAMEO SEN

Group 4: SEAMEO INNOTECH, SEAMEO RECFON, SEAMEO RIHED and SEAMEO SPAFA

Networking Session with Affiliate Members/Partners

During CDM 2015, the networking sessions with Affiliate Members/Partners were arranged and held on 9 June 2015.

Three SEAMEO Affiliate Members and eight Partners presented proposals on potential areas of collaboration with SEAMEO as well as updates on the ongoing join programmes/ projects/ initiatives.

These include Affiliate Member (from left), namely, the British Council, the University of Tsukuba, and China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE).

During the collaborative session Ms Sarita Suwannarat, Programmes Manager, Education (Partnerships), British Council Thailand expressed interested in collaborating with SEAMEO on the Newton Fund and sought more collaboration with the Higher Education International Unit and national co-funders (Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia).

Prof Dr Massami Isoda, Professor, University of Tsukuba presented the dbookPro program which co-developed with SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, Science, and Language in Indonesian Language and English Edition (by RECSAM). He also invited SEMEO Centre to join the the AIMS program meeting which will be hosted by University of Tsukuba in October, 2015 under SEAMEO-RIHED and MEXT, Japan.

The China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), the new Affiliate Member of SEAMEO by Ms. LI Yang, Deputy Director, Department of TVET Programs and Professional Training , shared the Programs and proposed Cooperation in TVET Sector in three area, namely, Training Program (VELT), International Vocation Education Forum , and 30 World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP)

These include (from left), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI), ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education (EAPRO), UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO), Australian Academy Technological and Science Engineering (ATSE), International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI), USAID Connecting the Mekong Through Education and Training (USAID COMET).

Small group meeting between SEAMEO Centres and partner were also conducted to discuss on specific concerns.
