5th SEA-TVET Student Exchange and 1st SEA-TVET Teacher Exchange Starting in 2020

The 6th SEAMEO Polytechnic Network Meeting with the theme ‘Agreement for SEA-TVET Network Action Plan’ was hosted by Duy Tan University and co-organised by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Secretariat (SEAMEO Secretariat) on 17-18 October 2019, at Magnolia Hotel, Da Nang City, Vietnam.
  
In response to the recommendations from the 5th High Officials Meeting on SEA-TVET, held on 9-10 September 2019 in Brunei Darussalam, the High Officials Round Table suggested to optimise the collaboration of TVET institutions from the student mobility to the areas of Teacher Development/ Exchange; and Research and Development. In addition to the discussion for the 5th batch of SEA-TVET Student Exchange programme, the 6th SEAMEO Polytechnic Meeting expanded the collaborative discussion to the areas of Teacher Capacity Development, Teacher Mobility, and Research and Development.

The meeting was attended by approximately 136 participants who are at the management level from 75 TVET Institutions/Polytechnics/Universities in 5 countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.  The meeting was also involved by the representatives from SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education (SEAMEO TED).

At the end of the meeting, the following agreements were formed for the implementation in 2020:

  1. Letter of Agreement of the 5th Batch SEA-TVET Student Exchange to be implemented during March-August 2020, agreed and signed by 140 institutions;
  2. Letter of Agreement of the 1st Batch SEA-TVET Teacher Exchange to be implemented during May-August 2020, agreed and signed by 55 institutions;
  3. Action Plan for SEA-TVET Research and Development 2020-2023; and  
  4. Action Plan for SEA-TVET Teacher Training Programme 2020-2023.

The 7th SEAMEO Polytechnic Network Meeting or SEA-TVET Network Meeting will be tentatively hosted by Universitas Brawijaya, SMK Metland, and the Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia, in May 2020.
