The Signing of SEAMEO STEM-ED and SEPS Memorandum of Agreement

The Ministry of Education Thailand signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) to host the SEAMEO Regional Centre on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics-Education (STEM-ED) and SEAMEO Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainability (SEAMEO SEPS) on 8 May 2019 in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, Bangkok, Thailand. The MOA indicates that the Government of Thailand will undertake the full operational costs and programme development of these new Centres under the framework of SEAMEO.

The MOA was signed by H E Dr Teerakiat Jareonsettasin, Minister of Education, Ministry of Education, Thailand; and Dr Ethel Agnes P Valenzuela, Director, SEAMEO Secretariat. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the High Officials of Ministry of Education, Thailand as well as Interim Directors of SEAMEO Centres in Thailand.

 

SEAMEO STEM-ED and SEPS will be located in Bangkok, Thailand and supervised by the Ministry of Education, Thailand. The establishment of the SEAMEO STEM-ED and SEPS were approved by the SEAMEO Council at the 49th SEAMEO Council Conference in July 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Currently, SEAMEO has 25 regional centres 1 network that undertakes training and research programmes in various fields of education, science, and culture that benefits countries in Southeast Asia and beyond. These centres are hosted by the respective governments of the SEAMEO Member Countries.
