To
celebrate the centenary birth of Mom
Luang Pin Malakul, a SEAMEO Founder and UNESCO Outstanding Personality for 2002-2003,
Darakarn Building
was renamed “Mom Luang Pin Malakul Centenary
Building”
in
honour of his great contribution to the advancement of the
education in Thailand at all levels.

The Darakarn
Building that houses UNESCO and SEAMEO Secretariat was renamed
to "Mom Luang Pin Malakul Centenary Building" in honour
of his great contribution to the advancement of the Education
in Thailand at all levels. It is also in commemoration of the
100th anniversary of his birth in 2003. |
The
Royal Thai Government, through the Ministry of Education allocated
5.99 million baht for the renovation of the building as part
of Mom Luang Pin Malakul Centenary Celebration. As of Friday,
27 December 2002, the renovation of the Darakarn Building with
Thailand appropriation of 5,991,945 baht in 2002 was completed.

The Director
General of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura and H E Mr Pongpol Adireksarn,
Minister of Education, Thailand officiated the Unveiling Ceremony
of Mom Luang Pin Malakul's statue and the Dedication of Mom
Luang Pin Malakul Centenary Building on 27 December 2002. |
The ceremony
was presided over by H E Mr Pongpol Adireksarn, Minister of
Education and SEAMEO Council President. The Director General
of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura was present as the Guest of
Honour to cut the ribbon and unveil the statue together with
the Minister of Education. The sculptor is Mr Prawat Raksayanm.

The
ceremony was organized by the Ministry of Education, Thailand
in collaboration with SEAMEO Secretariat and UNESCO Asia and
the Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. |
Essay Contest
On this occasion, the UNESCO-SEAMEO Essay Contest entitled
"The role of Mom Luang Pin Malakul to promote
collaboration in education, science and culture between Thailand,
UNESCO and SEAMEO" was organized to commemorate
the centenary of the birth of H E Mom Luang Pin Malakul. The
