Integration  of  Values

Water  has  the great spirit of love and caring whose purpose is to provide food for all of the Children of the Creator God on Earth. They are around  the entire Earth making them a great spirit. A Great Spirit is a billion beings operating with one heart . Water  teaches everyone how to love without discrimination. What Water  teaches  in North America, they teach in Africa, China, Russia, and everywhere this great spirit dwells around the world.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY

To understand the importance of water in creation related to traditions, culture and religious practices
•To understand the significance of drawing out  inherent values latent in students with relation to traditions, culture and religious practices
•To draw out a curriculum that can generalize the values from the overall physical and analytical differences in specific cultures/religious practices/traditions related to water.
•To bring out direct teaching methods to draw out values from students so that they can be applied   practically   in schools, society and the community as a whole.

WATER  SUPPORTS LIFE.

WATER IS THE BASIS OF LIFE.

In a moment you will see a unique photograph

•What‘s so special about this?
•This is a picture of a rock formation near a lake in Burma. The photo can only be taken on a specific day once a year when the sun rays touch the rocks at a certain angle.
•Tilt your head to the left and then look at it again  ….

Did you notice anything different?
yes or no?

Now I will turn the whole scene vertical

•Water does however feature in Buddhist funerals where water is poured into a bowl placed before the monks and the dead body.
•As it fills and pours over the edge, the monks recite  "As the rains fill the rivers and overflow into the ocean, so likewise may what is given here reach the departed."

Hinduism: A Holy Water Religion

A bath in the temple water is said to be sanctified by the proximity to the whole environment

Hold the glass in the left hand .Take a small quantity of water in the right hand palm .Sprinkle it on the head through right hand fingers, reciting at  the same time the mantras.

Purified water is poured over the Kumbha or tower  by simultaneously  followed by chantings so that the deity is installed

The water in the kalasha symbolises the primordial water from which the entire creation emerged. It is the giver of life to all and has the potential of creating innumerable names and forms, the inert objects and the sentient beings and all that is auspicious in the world from the energy behind the universe. The leaves and coconut represent creation. The thread represents the love that "binds" all in creation. The kalasha is therefore considered auspicious and worshipped. The waters from all the holy rivers, the knowledge of all the Vedas and the blessings of all the deities are invoked in the kalasha and its water is thereafter used for all the rituals, including the abhisheka.

Water

Holy water dispenser in Bali

Bali Hinduism is called the holy water religion. Water in containers is made holy by Brahman priests for use in Balinese religious ceremonies, like temple ceremonies, tooth-filings and weddings.

The priest utters ritual prayers, sprinkles and swallows some. He does this 3 times. After which, the water inside is deemed to be holy water - air tirta - with great religious vitality and validity.

Water used as medium for funeral rites

Lustral Water (Buddhist "holy-water"): is water which has been poured over a Buddha statue under proper conditions to gain some of the mystical effectiveness of the Buddha's virtues. This water may be used to pour over the hands of a corpse at funerals, the hands of a bridal couple at wedding festivities, to sprinkle' about a newly built house, or sometimes as medication for the ill.

The Ganga is considered as one of the two most sacred river by Hindus, the other being the Sindhu

The largest religious gathering on Earth.  Around 70 million Hindus from around the world participated in KumbhMela at one of the Hindu Holy city Prayaga (India).

The largest human gathering ever has been photographed from space by a high resolution imaging satellite.

Over 70 million people are expected to attend a Hindu spiritual event in northern India called the Maha Kumbh Mela. The pilgrims gather at a sacred location on the Ganges River, 15 kilometres from Allahabad, for more than a month of bathing rituals. The activities are intended to wash away their sins and hasten the Hindu people's progress toward nirvana.

The one-metre resolution image was collected by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite, travelling at over 6 kilometres per second, 677 kilometres above the Earth. It shows red-robed bathers at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers.

SONGKRAN

•Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

http://sunsite.au.ac.th/thailand/special_event/songkran/index.html

The Songkran tradition is recognized as a valuable custom for the Thai community, society and religions. The value for family is to provide the opportunity for family members to gather in order to express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents and to present them gifts including making merits to dedicate the result to their ancestors. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity.

A mural of Dusidaram Temple, Bangkok, describes
the scene in which an army of devils are trying
to deter the Lord Buddha from gaining enlightenment but the Goddess of Earth is producing a large amount of water to flood them away.

A lump of sugar or salt placed in water disappears. You can see it no more; but can you say it has been destroyed? Or, do you say it has merged? It is there, the taste declares it; it has lost the form, but is present in its quality.

Water has the ability to take up whatever quality it is associated with.

Human Values

When we follow rightful  thoughts ,words and speech  the water in our body is pure

When we  speak ill or follow wrong conduct  the water in our body is also affected. There is a mixture of qualities –the good and the bad.

Stupas

The enlightened mind of Buddha is reflected through the stupas. Symbolically, stupas represent the following five elements:

•Earth - Represented by the square base of the stupa
•Water - Represented by the round dome of the stupa
•Fire - Represented by the cone-shape of the stupa
•Air - Represented by the canopy of the stupa
•Space - Represented by the volume of the stupa
