SEAMEO participates in 12th Regional Meeting of National EFA Coordinators

Discussions focused on 1) using data and evidence for improved policy and learning; 2) making education more relevant and responsive to the needs of national advancement through skills development; 3) governance and the roles of State and non-state providers in financing EFA; and 4) improving data collection, monitoring, evaluation and assessment.

Dr Witaya Jeradechakul, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat presented SEAMEO's effort in addressing data needs of member countries by developing the SEAMEO Education Database in cooperation with UNICEF and UNESCO. The database aims to compile data on education to meet the current needs of SEAMEO Member Countries, to present regional information and depict the SEAMEO educational profile for regional and global reference, and to serve as an additional source of information for planning and decision-making for SEAMEO and other stakeholders. The SEAMEO Secretariat also shared SEAMEO ™s initiatives on Education for All, particularly the 10 multi-country led collaborative projects to "reach the unreached".

The Regional Meeting of National EFA Coordinators is the annual meeting of National EFA Coordinators in Asia and the Pacific. The 12th meeting was organized by the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education in collaboration with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and UNICEF.

While in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the SEAMEO Secretariat also met with the Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI) and the UNESCO Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) and discussed areas of possible collaboration.
