SEAMEO Secretariat contributes student scholarship and development funds to a school in Thailand

Early this year, the SEAMEO Secretariat discussed with the school director and key staff of the school, and assisted them in developing a school development plan that aims to improve various development aspects of the school such as teaching strategies of teachers, students' life skills, and some learning facilities of the school including their computer room and library. The cash contribution from the SEAMEO Secretariat will help implement the development plan scheduled from June 2011 to July 2012.

For the academic year 2011/2012, the SEAMEO Secretariat has also supported the organization of student activities such as school competitions on best classroom, best dormitory as well as a dance contest. Assistance was also provided in holding reading campaign in the school, and in improving the learning resources in the school ™s library and computer rooms.

Suksasongkroh Bangkreuy School is a public school established in 1962 as a boarding school for disadvantaged children such as street and homeless children, orphans, children from remote and indigenous communities, and children of migrant parents. Currently, the school has 40 teachers and 403 students from year 1 to year 12. As endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Thailand, the Suksasongkroh Bangkruey School will be an adopted school of the SEAMEO Secretariat and will participate in the SEAMEO Community Involvement Programme beginning July 2010 to June 2013.
