Delegation from the Government of Kenya visits SEAMEO Secretariat

Dr Witaya Jeradechakul, Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat received the Kenyan delegation and presented the profile of the Organization including the priorities, programmes, and projects. He also shared SEAMEO experiences in sustaining collaboration among the member countries in implementing collaborative programmes on education in Southeast such as the initiative "Reaching the Unreached: Working together to reach the unreached in Southeast Asia" which aims to help accelerate the achievement of the Education For All Goals in Southeast Asia. Other topics discussed between SEAMEO and the Kenyan delegation includes educational policies, curriculum, HIV/AIDS education, life skills, and others.

The delegation consisted of senior officials from key ministries and departments involved in the EFA end-decade assessment process in Kenya such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. The visit of the delegation to the SEAMEO Secretariat is part of UNESCO ™s technical support to the Kenyan Government in its preparation of the end-of-decade assessment on the implementation of Education For All in Kenya.

In the spirit of cross-regional collaboration linking Africa with Asia and the Pacific, the study visit focused on sharing and learning experiences from Asia Pacific on specific issues in relation to Education for All Goals and Millennium Development Goals monitoring. The delegation stayed in Bangkok from 8 to 11 August 2011.
