SEAMEO supports Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility

The AFCRS was attended by 571 delegates from business companies, governments, the academe, civil society, multilateral organizations, and media throughout Asia. Thirty five speakers who are experts on CSR practices from 25 countries gave presentations in the four tracks of the forum, namely, innovative approaches, engaging and collaborating, heavy footprint, and enabling social entrepreneurship and development.

SEAMEO ™s participation in the forum provided opportunity for sharing and learning of new knowledge on corporate social responsibility which is especially supportive of SEAMEO ™s efforts on CSR.

For over 2 decades now, SEAMEO Units have implemented the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme called the SEAMEO Community Involvement Programme which was recommended in 1997 by the SEAMEO Council to help improve the school systems of the schools adopted by SEAMEO Regional Centres. Ever since, the Community Involvement Programme activities implemented by the SEAMEO Units have contributed to the development of societies and communities in Southeast Asian countries on four main areas, namely, environment, education, human resources and community welfare development, and health promotion.

As SEAMEO moves forward towards achieving its œGolden SEAMEO goal, an initiative called œPartnership for Business, Social Responsibility and Promoting Southeast Asian Living Culture was developed as one of the 18 strategic initiatives under the SEAMEO Strategic Plan. The initiative aims to bring together the SEAMEO Units and the private sector in partnership to address a broad range of social development issues in Southeast Asia ranging from education, health, community development and environment. The initiative hopes to bring public-private partnership into a level beyond basic corporate philanthropy by leveraging on the strengths of each partner bringing together organizations which have the mutual interests for greater synergy.
