This is the last walking route which is the shortest route. The route starts from Suan Kularb school on Tri Petch road and continue walking northward across the intersection. Then turn left to see Wat Thipwari and turn left again along Ban Mob road. Walk southward until Ban Mob road meets Chakkrapetch road and turn left and left again to Mahachai road. Then turn left for the last time to Pahurat road. This route is 2.1 kilometres long and it takes less than one hour to finish. |

1. SUAN KULARB SCHOOL The name Suan Kularb means rose garden. It was given such name because in 1881 the school was located in the precinct of the Grand Palace in the area called Suan Kularb. The school was relocated to the present location in 1887 and the oblong-shaped building confronting Tri Petch road was built in 1910. It has been the symbol of Suan Kularb school for a long time. This building expresses not only a beautiful architecture but also the symbolic meaning of modern education in Thailand introduced in the Fifth reign. ____________________ 2. RATCHABURANA TEMPLE This temple was a small temple built in the late Ayutthaya period. The temple has become one of the Royal monasteries since the First reign (1782-1809). During World War II in 1945, significant buildings and objects in the temple were damaged by airbombs. Later, the temple was reconstructed and become an important temple of Rattanakosin once again. ____________________ 3. PHRABUDDHAYODFA BRIDGE Phra Buddhayodfa (King Rama I) Bridge was built in 1932 on the occasion of the 150th Rattanakosin anniversary. King Rama VII built this bridge across the Chao Phraya River to connect Phra Nakorn side (the east bank) with Thonburi (the west bank). A memorial of King Rama I was also created on the east bank. This bridge is the second bridge built across Chao Phraya River. The first bridge is a railway bridge, built in 1922 and called Rama VI Bridge. ____________________ 4. OLD SHOPHOUSES NEAR SUAN KULARB SCHOOL Two styles of chophouses are found in this area. The first style is similar to those found in Ban Mob area, that is, having a sloped roof and delicate treatment on transom. The second style is simpler, that is, without sophisticated decorative. Both types of chophouses are supposed to be built in different period but not later than during the Seventh reign (1925-1934). ____________________ 5. OLD SHOPHOUSES IN SOI SAPAN PUT These chophouses are assumed to be built in the Seventh reign (1925-1934) for they have different structure and decoration from those chophouses built during the former periods. The chophouses in Sol Sapan put have no sloped roof but deck roof with concrete parapet. They have simple wall and window treatment. Originally, there were 3 storeys but most units have been added up to 4 storeys. However, the original structure and architectural elements are still found in good condition. ____________________ |

6. BAN MOH AREA AND OLD SHOPHOUSES |

Ban Mob is an old place where traditional cooking pot ("Mob" means pot) used to be manufactured. The Shophouses were built later and the area has been famous for jewelry shops until now. But lately, number of jewelry shops becomes smaller while the number of electrical appliances shops increases. Nowadays, old chophouses are still found in the area. The interesting thing is that the chophouse unit at the entrance of an old market has a plaster pot placed on the top of pediment to represent the original activity of the area. ____________________ Ban Mob shrine is a Chinese shrine which has existed for more than 100 years. Originally it was a very small spirit house. The concrete building was built about 40 years ago in Chinese style without much decorative. Ban Mob shrine is very holy among Chinese people. It is believed that those who pays respect to the god situated in the shrine, his or her wish will become true. ____________________ 8. THIPWAREE TEMPLE This temple was built in Thonburi period ( 1767-1782). At the beginning, it was a monastery of Vietnamese monks. But later, it become a temple for Chinese people because a number of Chinese had migrated into the area near the temple. The word "Thipwaree" means "holy water". The temple ever had a well of holy water. It is believed that the holy water could be used as a remedy for illness. All present structures in the temple were built in 1951 to substitute the former dilapidated wooden structure. ____________________ 9. THE OLD SIAM PLAZA SHOPPING CENTRE This is the most recent redevelopment project in Rattanakosin which turned the entire old settlement into the modern group of buildings. The building is not high because of the recent height regulations for the sake of conservation. Inside, there are many shops, souvenirs booths and restaurants. On the top floors were the exclusive area of high cost residential units. Before redevelopment, this area is called "Talad (market) Ming Muang". A number of chophouses were built around the market. Ming Muang market was famous for made-to-order clothes ____________________ |

10. TAPTIM GODDESS SHRINE |

In Bangkok, there are many shrines of Taptim Goddess. This shrine on Chakkrapet road is one of the most popular among Chinese people. The shrine has been registered as religious place since 1917. Within the shrine, a wooden statue of Taptim Goddess (the goddess of mercy) is situated, the original shrine was destroyed during World War II and it was rebuilt in 1955. ____________________ 11. OFFICE OF AGRICULTURAL PROMOTION DEPARTMENT This 3-Storey building was built in the Fifth reign (1868-1910). It was originally the residence of Chao Phraya Rattanathibet, a minister in the Fifth reign. Since the minister had no son or daughter, he donated his property to the King. The main building has been well maintained and used as the office of Ministry of Education for a moment and finally became the office of the Agricultural Promotion Department. ____________________ 12. METROPOLITAN ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY (M.E.A) BUILDING This 3-storey building is the oldest building remaining in the area of Metropolitan Electricity Authority. The building is located in the area where public electricity was first generated in the Fifth reign. The building is in good condition and is currently used as one of the offices of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority. ____________________ |
