7. Implementation Issues and Future Directions for Research and Development
Dr Padmore facilitated the group discussion to get some ideas from the participants on implementation issues and future directions.
Appendix VII shows the summary of outputs made during the discussions.
It was concluded that there were varieties of levels in using new technologies in SEAMEO Member Countries. Some kinds of new technologies were feasible and desirable. Need for cooperation in education in the region was greater than before, especially in planning, assessment of needs, designing programmes/projects, and in delivering new technologies in education.
B. Closing of Seminar
Dr Suparak thanked all participants for attending the Seminar. He also thanked the resource speakers for unselfishly sharing their talents and expertise on new technologies. He hoped that the seminar would be a springboard for more acquisition of know-how and experiences. The Seminar ended at 1500 hours.
C. Participants' Feedback
Of the 48 participants, 25 or 52 percent returned their Feedback Forms. Data are presented in tables and shown in Appendix VIII. Based on the data, the following points are drawn:
1. The seminar was relevant to the participants' jobs;
2. The objectives were clear but the coverage was inadequate;
3. Papers and handouts were useful and clearly understood;
4. The facilitators had mastery of the subject matter and were good time managers;
5. The facilitators were good motivators and were able to sustain participants' interests in learning;
6. Participants indicated that in conducting similar seminars
  • The most appropriate time would be in November, two days preceding the SEAMEO High Officials Meeting;
  • The SEAMEO Secretariat could decide about the venue;
  • The SEAMEO CENTRE Directors would be the appropriate participants;
  • The most appropriate topic would be "Educational Reform in Economic Crisis and Limited Resources."
7. Some suggestions to improve the conduct of a similar seminar are as follows:
  • Topics should be selected through needs assessment;
  • Get appropriate speakers;
  • More discussions should be facilitated;
  • Presentations should be more focused; and
  • Centre Directors should be involved in designing the seminar to embody the actual needs of the Centres.
