Statement by
French Delegation
Mr Antoine Mynard

Mr Chairman,
Your Excellencies,
Honourable Guests and Colleagues,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the French Government and of the French Minister of Youth, National Education and Research, Mr Gilles de Robien, I would like to express my honour and great pleasure to participate to this 41st SEAMEO Council Conference.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate H E Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam for being elected Chairman of this conference and President of the SEAMEO Council, and also to thank H E Dr Nguyen Minh Hien for his invaluable achievements throughout the past year.
Let me also convey France’s congratulations to Timor-Leste for becoming a new SEAMEO Member Country.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
For more than thirty years, France has been an Associate Member of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization. This relationship between France and SEAMEO has been characterized by an effective cooperation through its different centres and its Secretariat, with an objective of strengthening the links between Southeast Asia and France, as well as contributing to regional integration, particularly in the field of education and academic cooperation.
France will pursue its commitment with SAMEO by providing its expertise and by finding ways to respond to different regional needs. This coming year, the French government will continue to support various projects that symbolize the on-going partnership with SEAMEO, such as:
  • the 4th “French-speaking Olympiad” for high schools students from Southeast Asia;
  • and the 3rd “Diplomatic French Language Training” for Young Diplomats from the ASEAN, with SEAMEO RELC.
  • France will also support 12 health experts from Aceh, Indonesia, to join a training seminar at the SEAMEO TROPMED Centres in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. It will also contribute to organize a seminar on “Health Human Resources Development Related to Disaster Management” in the region.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please allow me to conclude by expressing my sincere acknowledgement to the host of this 41st SEAMEO Council Conference, as well as my best wishes for further fruitful and successful discussions. Thank you for your attention.
