Problem met and how to solve

During the internship programme, I found that there were some problems.  The first problem is about the task of translation.  It is because that it is my first time to translate all the international official documents.  Therefore, one thing is certain: I found several technical terms that I have never seen before.  Worse and worse it doesn’t exist in any dictionary.  So, I tried all my best to cope with this kind of problem by trying to use online dictionaries and try to consult Canadian interns in order to get the exact meaning for the better translation from English into Thai.

Later, I met a problem with preparing press releases.  In my opinion, it is a very challenging task.  The simple reason is that I must prepare them in time because all the press releases that I must accomplish successfully at that point is needed for the news broadcasting or is urgently sent to the newspaper publisher.  So, I tried all my best to successfully accomplish all my press releases in time.  If I had some problems, I would consult my mentor as soon as possible.

Besides, preparing an updating schedule of contact information of VIP persons was really complicated.  I must successfully accomplish in time, too.  Every information that I had to update was totally from many files.  And I must search everything by using the Internet, by phone and by fax.  This was very helpful in every real situation in working lives.

Finally, the most difficult and challenging task in this internship programme was the SEAMEO Community Involvement Programme: English Camp, at Ban Subsanoon School, Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province.  Seeing that this was a very new thing in my life that I have never known or studied before, I must try to study everything related to teaching English as a Foreign Language.  There were many things to do like planning the suitable and practical teaching methodology, analysing the materials needed that were obviously suitable for all the students, preparing all of them in time and so on.

In addition, I must modify some steps in my teaching methodology according to every real circumstance in class.  Hence, the best way to cope this is to consult my mentor immediately and try to modify all my teaching methodology in the Edutainment Teaching Style: adding many games in class in order that the students can apply their knowledge in English that they have just acquired continuously.

Insights/Knowledge gained

During the internship programme, lots of knowledge and experiences were gained.  The working system and workflow within organisation were learned to gain in case having the chance to collaborate with its organisation.  English skills were practised more and more in each day.  That could create the ability to improve English skills in a better way.  Also, relationship between colleagues was reached during the programme.  That was a great impression to gain.

Moreover, a chance to show the ideas or attitudes was started during the programme, especially in the SEAMEO Community Involvement Programme English Camp, together with the knowledge acquisition which had never known before, for example, the knowledge gained in the field of teaching English as a foreign language.

Furthermore, during the English Camp, good things were reached: communication with foreigners, particularly Canadian interns who are totally English native speakers and transmission, initiatives, self-confidence and co-ordination. All of them are entirely basic and essential factors for life being.

Conclusion

The internship programme is very helpful for all students who attend.  Especially, someone who is now looking for a job should very much join or participate for knowledge and experience gained.  This helps training the skills of working with other new people in new environment.  The simple reason is that it enables him or her to be able to adapt him or herself in case working as career.

In addition, this enables me to know increasingly the duty in the field of Public Relations.  As far as I know during the internship programme, this position is really challenging since everyone who desire being successful in their career in the field of Public Relation must gain knowledge in many field such as English and Thai language proficiency, computer operation, photography and so on.

Recommendations

Joining in SEAMES internship programme is a helpful period of time for someone who is about to be a secretary or who is looking for a secretarial job.  It is because the task in SEAMES internship programme involves with being the executive secretary, so it is worth attending for the interns who grow interested in this kind of job.  Therefore, it is certainly the great opportunity for these interns to gain if they join the internship programme at SEAMES.

Future plans

In my opinion, if possible, I plan to work either as a diplomat in The Ministry of Foreign Affairs or as a pubic relation officer in institutions whether domestic or international or intercontinental organisation.  Then, internship programme at SEAMES is very useful for me because it is the good opportunity to try many real tasks and meet obviously real work atmosphere in one of many famous international organisations.  And hopefully, all the enriching experiences from internship programme at SEAMES can effectively fulfil my future career expectation.

Self-Evaluation

In my opinion, I believe that I should evaluate myself by noticing the ability to conceptualise the entire tasks that I successfully accomplished like press releases or several documents translated from English into Thai.  Also, it includes the ability to prepare, to create, to cope with various problems and to effectively implement my teaching methodology plans for the SEAMEO Community Involvement Programme: English Camp, at Ban Subsanoon School, Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province.
