Purpose
of the Internship |
| |
- |
Editorial
Assistant for the SPAFA Journal |
| 2. |
Description
of Tasks |
| |
- |
Editing articles
that have been submitted to the Journal. |
| |
- |
Writing articles
for the Journal. |
| |
- |
Interviewing
various artists, curators, etc. |
| |
- |
Additional
duties at SPAFA: editing pieces written by other members of the
SPAFA
staff, composing letters requesting funding for Dr Pisit, attended
the SPAFA seminar
The Way Forward: Changes, Challenges & Consequences for the
Future Development
of Arts & Cultural Institutions in order to give feedback on
the papers being presented. |
| 3. |
Accomplishments |
| |
- |
helped get the
Journal caught up after several months on inactivity. |
| |
- |
helped further
move Journal towards Southeast Asian arts, particularly with my interest
in covering the performing arts. |
| 4. |
Problems
Met and How Solved |
| |
- |
Problem of lack
of tasks during initial month solved by offering to help edit or
write for others at SPAFA. |
| |
- |
Lack of confidence
about pursuing my ideas for the Journal: Ean gave me the
reigns to allow me to take some initiative; the more comfortable I
was in my role,
the more confident I became. |
| 5. |
Insights/Knowledge
Gained |
| |
- |
Improvement shown
in both writing and, in particular, editing. |
| |
- |
Greater understanding
of the publishing industry. |
| |
- |
Further enhanced
interview skills. |
| |
- |
Learning about
Southeast Asian arts has given me a far more global outlook on culture,
the world in general and even myself. |
| 6. |
Conclusions
(Did SEAMES meet your expectations?) |
| |
- |
I had few overall
expectations when I arrived; this role that I have been given at
SPAFA, however, was exactly what I had been hoping to do and am still
thrilled and honoured to have been chosen for this capacity. |
| 7. |
Recommendations
(Focus on things that would improve future internships of Thai Interns) |
| |
- |
I think that
I have been lucky in getting placed where I have and would hope that
future interns will be placed in centres that reflect their abilities,
regardless of what they may be. |
| 8. |
Future
Plans |
| |
- |
I hope to further
pursue a career in writing, focusing on one or more of the following
disciplines: journalism, travel writing, arts and culture, play writing
and novels/short stories. This position has given me a great deal
of experience in the editorial process and I may pursue something
in that direction one day as well. |
