Detailed description of activities

The project will last a period of 24 months. In order to accomplish the objectives the project has been structured into sub-projects, called Work Packages (WP) involving the development of different coherent tasks and finalising with the correspondent deliverable. Each WP will be lead by a CAE e-LEARN partner, proficient in the specific area of expertise of the WP.

WP1: Project Management and quality assurance
WP2: Comparative analysis of education topics, systems & traditions.
WP3: State of the Art on IT&C in ODL systems and norms.
WP4: Southeast Asian Virtual Learning Model
WP5: Pilot test.
WP6: Evaluation.
WP7: Dissemination

This structure is organised around three main tasks. The outcome of these tasks will be very relevant for the rest of the project:

To set up the CAE e-LEARN Technical Office (WP1) which will develop the project co-ordination, quality assurance and management work.
To get a better understanding of the different topics and traditions regarding educational systems to improve the transfer of know-how between Southeast Asian and European countries (WP2)
To obtain knowledge about IT&C systems in ODL used in Southeast Asia and Europe in order to map out the existing technical possibilities. (WP3)

The Technical Office will be responsible for the overall management and will provide direct support of the project. The Technical Office will ensure the development of assigned tasks and the timely submission of deliverables. It will also be responsible for the financial aspects of the project. In addition, the Technical Office will co-ordinate the various activities among the different work-packages as well as organise key activities such as quality assurance and sustainability analysis. As the overall responsible entity in the project the Technical Office will act as the primary liaison office with EU Commission.

The project’s activities will start by analysing the education topics, systems & traditions in both regions, Europe and Southeast Asia, in order to identify the cultural and social differences, to improve the mutual understanding between EU and Southeast Asia. It will be followed by the analysis of the distance learning systems and IT&C possibilities in Southeast Asia and Europe, to develop a methodology and strategy in order to define a specific Virtual Learning Model, describing the role of key elements such as the student, the learning materials, the tutoring action, the student assessment, the support centre, the library and the social/community interaction. As the result of all the activities exposed above, a pilot test will be deployed to validate the methodology and strategy.

The project evaluation will asses the success of the project. The results of this evaluation as well as insights gained from CAE e-LEARN will be disseminated to a broad community. The dissemination will take place during the whole period of the project having a bigger emphasis at the end of it and will employ media, conferences and seminars as a means of dissemination.
