SEAMEO Council Conference |

| The Honourable Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad graced
the opening of the 36th SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization)
Council Conference, held on 12 February 2001, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. |

| His Excellency Tan Sri Dato' Seri Musa bin Mohamad,
Minister of Education Malaysia succeeded Indonesia's Minister of National Education, Dr
Yahya A Muhaimin as SEAMEO Council President during the conference. |
|
| The Conference was attended by Ministers of Education from
SEAMEO Member Countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). Ministers of Education
and representatives from Associate Member Countries, namely Australia, Canada, Germany and
France, Affiliate Member ICDE (International Council for Open and Distance Education) and
Observers representing country and organizations: UNESCO PROAP (United Nations Educationa,
Scientific and Cultural Organization Principal Regional office for Asia and Pacific)
ASAIHL (The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning), and the ASEAN
Secretariat also attended the conference and delivered statements. |
