SEAMEC President's
Visit 1987
|
Notwithstanding heavy
commitments as the Minister for Education, Singapore, H E Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam,
in his capacity as President of SEAMEC, was able to visit RECSAM in Malaysia on 19
September 1987. The SEAMEC President was received by H E Mr Anwar Ibrahim, Minister
of Education, Malaysia, and by H E Dr Leo Michael Toyad, Deputy Minister of Education,
Malaysia. The SEAMEC President met with the Centre Director and staff, as well as
participants of on-going courses at the Centre. The visit included an inspection of
the Computer Centre, AVA Centre, Staff Research Centre and the Exhibition Room of RECSAM,
and a slide presentation of the on-going programmes and activities of the Centre.
His Excellency also visited Universiti Sains, Penang.

On 10 November 1987, the SEAMEC President
visited BIOTROP in Indonesia. In Jakarta, his Excellency had an audience with
His Excellency President Suharto and met with H E Professor Dr Fuad Hassan, Minister of
Education and Culture, Indonesia. At BIOTROP in Tajur, Bogor, his Excellency met
with the Centre Director and her staff, and toured the campus, including the
laboratories, mapping room, the herbarium and the library. His Excellency also
visited Universitas Indonesia, Depok campus.

records its appreciation to the SEAMEC President for making the
visits which have given further encouragement to the SEAMEO Centres.
