SEAMEC PRESIDENT'S
VISITS TO SEAMEO CENTRES 1990
During the year under review, SEAMEO RELC was honoured with a visit by
H E
General Mana Ratanakoses, Minister of Education, Thailand, and President of
SEAMEC.
The SEAMEC President officiated at the SEAMEO RELC Regional Seminar on "Language
Testing and Language Programme Evaluation", 9 April 1990. On hand to welcome
the SEAMEC President were SEAMEO Secretariat Director, Professor Dr Jakub Isman and Mr
Earnest Lau, Director of SEAMEO RELC. The SEAMEC President also met with the
Centre's professional and administrative staff and was briefed on RELC's main activities
and responsibilities.
On 26 August 1990, as the result of a cabinet reshuffle, H E General Mana Ratanakoses was
appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and H E General Tienchai Sirisumpan
was appointed Minister of Education, Thailand, and concurrently therefore replaces H E
General Mana Ratanakoses as the incumbent SEAMEC President.

On 21 December 1990 the incumbent
SEAMEC President, H E General Tienchai Sirisumpan visited the SEAMEO Secretariat and
SEAMEO SPAFA. Upon arrival at Darakarn Building, the SEAMEC President unveiled the
25th Anniversary SEAMEO plaque on a wall of the lobby of the building, housing the
Secretariat and SPAFA. |
The SEAMEC President then toured the SEAMEO Secretariat and SEAMEO SPAFA offices and was
briefed on SEAMEO programmes, the Secretariat's functions, and SPAFA's programmes and
activities by the Secretariat Director and the SPAFA Director respectively. The
SEAMEC President also met with the officers and staff of both the Secretariat and
SPAFA. On 9 January 1991, the SEAMEC President graciously presided over the
foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new SEAMEO SPAFA Headquarters building on Sri
Ayudhya Road, Bangkok.

The SEAMEC President toured the SEAMEO Secretariat office and was briefed on SEAMEO
programmes, the Secretariat's functions, and activities by Professor Dr Jakub Isman, the
Secretariat Director.

On 10-11 January 1991, the SEAMEC President made a visit to Indonesia. H E General
Tienchai Sirisumpan paid a courtesy call on H E Professor Dr Fuad Hassan, Minister of
Education and Culture, Indonesia, in the morning of 11 January 1991 and afterwards visited
SEAMEO BIOTROP. The Director of SEAMES, and senior officials of the Centre.
The SEAMEC President also met with the Centre staff and was briefed on the Centre's
programmes and activities. The SEAMEC President visited TROPMED Indonesia TROPMED
National Centre on the Centre's activities.
The SEAMEC President made a visit to Malaysia on 24-25 January 1991. The SEAMEC
President paid a courtesy call on H E Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim, Minister of Education, in
the afternoon of 24 January. On 25 January, the SEAMEC President visited SEAMEO
RECSAM, accompanied by the director and the senior staff of the Centre. The SEAMEC
President was given a briefing on RECSAM programmes and activities and also toured the
Centre's facilities.
