Visits of the SEAMEO Council President 1996

During his term, H.E. Mr Sukavich Rangsitpol, the SEAMEC President visited SEAMEO Member Countries and exchanged view with the Ministers of Education on SEAMEO, educaitonal reform and other issues.

His Excellency also visited the SEAMEO Centres where he officiated ceremonies, toured the facilities and was briefed on the current programme of activities. During these visits, His Excellency offered salient points for the centres to consider.

His Excellency raised the issue of training in-service officers to apply their acquired knowledge to improve the quality of life of rural people in their homeland. The SEAMEC President also showed interest in improving the capacity of international organizations located in Thailand, making them centres of excellence and leadership. He promised to seek financial support to help solve shortfall problems in the implementation of the Centre's activities. Furthermore, he suggested that RIHED carry out a comparative study at both primary and secondary levels on problems in educational management and investment. During a visit to SEAMEO Secretariat, the SEAMEC President invited all SEAMEO Centre Directors to visit schools in Prachin Buri and Chachoengsao provinces in Thailand. The visit aimed at finding models to help improve rural schools in the country. SEAMES later adopted Ban Pru Wai Primary School as a pilot project of SEAMEO community involvement. During his trip to the Philippines, H.E. Mr Sukavich Rangsitpol was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education by the Philippine Normal University. His will to reform education and strong leadership in educational management were highly commended.
