Presidents of SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC President)

The policy-making body of the Organization is the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Council (SEAMEO Council). It is composed of the Ministers of Education of member countries. The council makes all decisions that will bind the Organization into commitments internal as well as external.

The Council elects its own president and appoints the Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat. The Council meets regularly once a year to determine the policies and the main lines of work of the Organization. The council approves all SEAMEO programmes and budgets. The Council's binding acts are in the form of council resolutions.

During their terms, the SEAMEO Council Presidents assume leadership in providing new directions and opening up of new avenues of collaboration. They accomplish this effectively through their visits to the SEAMEO Member Countries and dialogues with the Centres, Governing Boards and the Ministries of Education.
