| Before Dr Ashari bin Che Mat assumed the top post at
SEAMEO Secretariat office, he served as Centre Director of SEAMEO RECSAM based in Penang,
Malaysia.
Dr Ashari had served the Malaysian
educational system as teacher, principal and assistant director. He has contributed
articles in Malay published by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia and presented papers in
several international seminars representing the Malaysian Education Ministry.
He obtained the masteral and doctoral degrees from the
University of Pittsburgh, USA, and the BA from the University of Malaya.

SEAMEO Secretariat Director Dr Ashari

Dr Padoongchart Suwanawongse (left) welcomed Mr Kim Chong Lok, Director of Korean
International Cooperation Agency. The latter visited SEAMEO Secretariat last
27 October and was briefed on the goals and thrusts of SEAMEO to explore the possibility
of future collaborations. |

On 17 May 1995, The Honourable
Mordechay Lewy, Ambassador of Israel, accompanied by Noah Gal, First Secretary, Embassy of
Israel made a visit to SEAMEO Secretariat and had a discussion on possibility of
assistance from Israel to SEAMEO countries. |
Dr Nguyen Loc, further right, Interim
Director of the Ho Chi Minh Training Centre in Viet Nam visited Dr Ashari bin Che Mat, at
SEAMEO Secretariat Office, with the Vice Minister of Education and Training,
H E Professor Dr Tran Xuan Nhi. |
