The SEAMEO Secretariat supported and participated in the Worlddidac Asia 2009 and the 3rd Asia Education Leaders Forum which were held back-to-back from 28 to 30 October 2009 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand. The two events served as venue for both international and Thai participants in exchanging views, ideas, and lessons learned in education.
The three-day back-to-back events included various activities such as plenary sessions, focused group workshops, and exhibitions. Featured themes were Criterion and Enhancement of Student Competency in the 21st Century, Mathematics and Science Study: Innovation, Motivation and Achievements, and e-Education: Quality, Equity and Sensitivity for Learners and Teachers, among others.
The Minister of Education of Thailand, Mr Jurin Laksanawisit presided over the opening of the events and shared Thailand’s Second Educational Reform Roadmap that is expected to contribute to the country’s quality education and quality human resources.
The SEAMEO Secretariat Director, Dato’ Dr Ahamad bin Sipon chaired the Organizing Committee of the two events. During the opening, he welcomed the participants and expressed support to the two international events which are products of strong collaboration between and among the organizing committee members that included the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, the Ministry of Education of Thailand, Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, and the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand.
