Parallel Sessions

Sponsors of the Second International Conference on Language Development, Language Revitalization and Multilingual Education in Ethnolinguistic Communities invite scholars and practitioners to submit abstracts for parallel presentations relating to the following topics:

Revitalizing and/or maintaining languages

  • Role of non-dominant languages in society
  • Planning and implementing sustainable language maintenance and language revitalization programs
  • Developing and revising orthographies
  • Developing written styles in previously unwritten languages

 

Language policies and language-in-education policies

  • Language policies in multilingual settings
  • Impact of language policies on indigenous and other non-dominant languages
  • Language-in-education policies that support or hinder education in non-dominant language communities

 

Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MT-Based MLE)

  • Planning and implementing MT-based MLE programs for children and for adults
  • MT-Based MLE and gender equity
  • Multi-grade classrooms in multilingual communities
  • Developing teaching and learning materials, including graded reading materials in the students' mother tongue
  • Teacher recruitment and training
 

Preserving intangible cultural heritage:

  • Preserving traditional oral literature, dance, music, knowledge
  • Including women's narratives in recorded histories
  • Informal music education practices
  • Incorporating cultural knowledge and traditions into formal and non-formal education

 

Research and evaluation studies of language maintenance, language revitalization and multilingual education programs

  • Principles and practices in research and evaluation of language revitalization and MTbased MLE
  • Case study research of small-scale language revitalization and MLE projects
  • Longitudinal research studies of MT-based MLE
  • Community-centered / community-owned research and evaluation
