SEA-TVET Workshop on Hospitality, Health Care (Nursing), and Creative Industry was held to discuss on curriculum harmonisation in Indonesia on 11-13 October 2016.

The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Republic of Indonesia organised a SEA-TVET Workshop on Hospitality, Creative Industry and Health Care from 11 to 13 October 2016 at the Hotel Horison Bekasi, Indonesia. The workshop was held under the theme “Strengthening Student Skills and Competencies on Hospitality, Creative Industry and Health Care in Indonesia and Southeast Asia”.

Launching of Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) in Vietnam and Orientation Meeting on SEA-PLM, 13-14 October 2016, Hanoi, Vietnam

The Launching of Southeast Asia primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) and Orientation Meeting on SEA-PLM was held from 13 to 14 October 2016 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event was attended by representatives from relevant departments of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Vietnam such as Department of Education Testing and Accreditation (DETA), Department of Primary Education, Department of Teacher, Statistics Unit, Department of Planning and Finance, and relevant Provinces Education Offices, as well as SEAMEO Secretariat, UNICEF Country Office (CO) and UNICEF EAPRO. Centre of Educational Quality Evaluation (CEQE) of DETA, MOET Vietnam was the organizer of the event headed by the Director General of DETA and Director of CEQE of DETA.

Experts Meeting on Open Education Resources-Based Technology for Teaching and Learning Courses in Pre-Service Teacher Education, October 20-21 2016, Philippines

Over a decade, Open Education Resources (OER) has been gaining attention due to its potential in widening access to education at all levels with the integration of lifelong learning concepts both in formal and non-formal system. It is also expected to improve cost-efficiency and quality of teaching and learning outcomes. Recognizing what OER can bring about to the education development, UNESCO had convened the World OER Congress in Paris in June 2012, which announced the 2012 Paris OER Declaration. In order to operationalize the 2012 Paris OER Declaration in context of Southeast Asia, UNESCO, with sponsorship from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, has launched the project to assist the Philippines in developing OER-based curriculum for teacher education, which will be pilot-studied in the next academic year.

The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with Yogyakarta State University held the meeting title ‘the 2nd Evaluation Meeting: Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) on 8-9 October 2016 at UNY Hotel, Ballroom, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The purpose of the meeting is to review and evaluate the implementation of the 2nd batch of SEA-Teacher project and to discuss and plan for the 3rd batch with more universities in January 2017.
