Greater collaboration and new partnerships forged at SEAMEO Centre Directors Meeting 2011

The SEAMEO Centre Directors Meeting 2011 concluded on 7 July 2011 with great enthusiasm to implement new projects and strengthen existing ones through the support of SEAMEO partners and collaborators that include, among others, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (MEXT) Japan; the APEC Secretariat; the University of Tsukuba, Microsoft Corporation, Asia Pacific; the Cognition Education (New Zealand); and the Nord Anglia Education (United Kingdom).

Joint SEAMEO-UNESCO workshop on publication production held

The SEAMEO Secretariat and the UNESCO Bangkok Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education Office organized the Second Joint SEAMEO-UNESCO Workshop which focused on producing high-quality publications on 27-29 June 2011 at the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), Bangkok, Thailand. The three-day workshop tackled the cycle of producing publications and the processes involved at each stage such as planning and content preparation, printing, distribution, cataloging and archiving, translations and adaptations, promotion, and monitoring and evaluating impact.

49 lecturers and students from Indonesia University of Education visit SEAMEO Secretariat

Ten lecturers, eighteen PhD candidates and 20 master degree students from Indonesia University of Education, Bandung Campus, Indonesia led by Prof H Udin Syaefudin Sa'ud, Chairperson of Study Programme of Educational Administration, Graduate School, visited the SEAMEO Secretariat on 16 June 2011. The purpose of the visit was to learn about SEAMEO and it's activities and projects in promoting and developing education, science and culture in the Southeast Asian region.

SEAMEO Member Countries discuss strategies to accelerate attainment of EFA Goals

More than 60 officials and representatives from nine SEAMEO Member Countries, SEAMEO Regional Centres and international organizations gathered to discuss on ways to promote greater and more effective collaboration in ensuring the successful implementation of the 10 SEAMEO-led collaborative projects that are tailored to address educational needs of various disadvantaged and “unreached” population groups in Southeast Asia. The regional meeting was held from 20 to 21 June 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Young SEA-TVET to the Future

The Symposium with the theme “Learning and Sharing towards Internationalisation and Harmonisation” was hosted by Office of the Vocational Commission under the Ministry of Education Thailand in collaboration with SEAMEO on 29-31 August 2017 in Krabi, Thailand. The event was organised in response to the regional policy directions and recommendations from the TVET High Official Meeting in May 2016 in Bali to promote knowledge sharing, and 21st century and innovative thinking skills of TVET students and teachers.

SEA-Teacher Project, Online Meeting with 24 Rajabhat Universites

The online meeting with Rajabhat Universities, Thailand was conducted on 12 September 2016 The purpose of the meeting is to inform the universities about Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher project) and invite them to join the 3rd batch of SEA-Teacher project that will be implemented in January 2017.

SEAMEO in collaboration with the Office of the Education Council (OEC) Thailand, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), and the National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES) of the People's Republic of China organised the Third Meeting of the Southeast Asia-China Education Research Network (SEA-CERN) from 5 to 6 September 2016 at Amari Watergate Bangkok, Thailand.

2nd Evaluation Meeting of SEA-Teacher Project 8-9 Oct 2016, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with Yogyakarta State University held the meeting title ‘the 2nd Evaluation Meeting: Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) on 8-9 October 2016 at UNY Hotel, Ballroom, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The purpose of the meeting is to review and evaluate the implementation of the 2nd batch of SEA-Teacher project and to discuss and plan for the 3rd batch with more universities in January 2017.

Experts Meeting on Open Education Resources-Based Technology for Teaching and Learning Courses in Pre-Service Teacher Education, October 20-21 2016, Philippines

Over a decade, Open Education Resources (OER) has been gaining attention due to its potential in widening access to education at all levels with the integration of lifelong learning concepts both in formal and non-formal system. It is also expected to improve cost-efficiency and quality of teaching and learning outcomes. Recognizing what OER can bring about to the education development, UNESCO had convened the World OER Congress in Paris in June 2012, which announced the 2012 Paris OER Declaration. In order to operationalize the 2012 Paris OER Declaration in context of Southeast Asia, UNESCO, with sponsorship from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, has launched the project to assist the Philippines in developing OER-based curriculum for teacher education, which will be pilot-studied in the next academic year.
