Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia (Dikti) held a Focus Group Discussion on Recognition of Prior Learnng (RPL) Program for Vocational Teachers on 13 August 2018 at Century Park Hotel, Jakarta. The forum was led by Dr. Paristiyanti Nurwardani, Director of Learning of Dikti, and participated by Ir. Sri Renani Pantjastuti, Director of Secondary and Special Education Teachers Development, Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia (MoEC), Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto (SEAMEO Secretariat Director), and representatives from appointed Polytechnics and Vocational schools in Indonesia.
Since Indonesia is currently lacking of more than 90.000 productive vocational educators, the forum discussed about strategy to fulfill that need through RPL program. There will be 2 types of RPL Program; (1) RPL A: those who apply through formal education will get degree certificate/diploma, and (2) RPL B: those who apply through non-formal/informal education or working experience will get Equality Certificate. Cooperation with industry will also be intensified. Expert will be encouraged to teach in vocational higher education institutions or vocational schools. Joint curriculum between the Ministries and the industries will be applied to produce graduates that meet the needs of industry.
The forum also discussed the opportunity for Indonesian experts to work overseas and vice versa, where overseas experts can teach in Indonesian polytechnics/vocational schools, especially in hospitality and tourism major. (ale)
