Background
With the rapid development of the economy and the continuous improvement of its international status, PR China has been open for extensive cooperation with overseas in including Southeast Asia.
There were growing numbers of development projects between PR China and countries in Southeast Asia, both by government and private sectors. In response of this growth, there were demands for students in Southeast Asia for abilities to communicate in Chinese.
“Happy & Easy Learning Chinese” is a programme introduced by SEAMEO Secretariat to provide basic knowledge of Chinese language and culture. It is a total 24 hours of courses which welcomes participants from all over the Southeast Asian region.
Participants will be equipped with basic spoken Chinese and exposed to a part of Chinese history and culture after attending the program.
Each session will contain two teaching hours. The topic covers from Pin Yin (Chinese phonetic notation), greeting and other simple conversation to Chinese festival, lifestyle, etc.
All sessions will be mainly organized through WebEx. More importantly, the participants are required to practice after class and submit their recorded video of practice via Email: caoyi@seameo.org. The assessment will be given in the final session.
Objectives
The objectives of Happy & Easy Learning Chinese training program are as follows:
- To enhance cultural understanding between SEAMEO member countries and China.
- To develop basic skills and knowledge of Chinese language to the participants.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Use Pin Yin to read Chinese.
- Greet in Chinese.
- Shopping in Chinese.
- Introduce themselves in Chinese.
- Make simple conversation in Chinese.
- Understand a part of traditional Chinese culture.
Who can apply:
High School or Vocational college students and teachers from the 11 SEAMEO Member Countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam, are the targeted participants of this programme.
How to apply:
To join in the training, the participants should register through the following Online Registration.
No registration/training fee is required.
Requirements
The participants are strongly recommended to possess a laptop/notebook/smart phone completed or well connected with a webcam, mouse, external microphone and headset/earphone.
The device must be readily installed with Cisco WebEx and the participants should be well prepared 15 minutes before each session.
Training Duration
The training will be started from 9th April to 4th May, including 12 lessons. Each lesson is approximately 2hours. It will be delivered at 14:00- 16:00 Bangkok Time (GMT+7).
In the final assignment, participants are required to make up a team of two to four people. Every team is tasked to make conversation in Chinese and send a video record to the facilitators.

Certification
Students who submit the final projects will receive “Certificate of Completion”. The winners will receive “Certificate of recognition. The Certificates will be signed by SEAMEO Secretariat Director, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto.
The result will be posted on the website on 18th May.
Criteria
The overall academic results will be examined as follows:

Rules and Conditions
- Participant who is unable to attend the class need to email the facilitator ahead of time.
- ALL the participants are required to show active participation towards in-class practice.
- Only the participants who passed the criteria will receive the Certificate of Participation
