70 Teachers and Students of Southeast Asian Countries Joined Future Farmers in Thailand on 30 January -4 February 2017 in Uthaithani

The Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), Ministry of Education- Thailand organised the 38th National Academic Meeting for Future Farmers Organization of Thailand under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 30 January - 4 February 2016 at the Uthaithani College of Agriculture and Technology in Uthaithani province, Thailand. 

The event aimed to 1) develop Future Farmer models and enhance competencies of TVET students and teachers in Agriculture and Fisheries in Southeast Asia countries, especially in the area of innovative R&D projects; 2) enhance student’s global leadership, creative, and communicative skills and knowledge required for Agriculture development; and 3) to update the innovations and knowledge in Agriculture and Fisheries of TVET schools/ colleges in Southeast Asia.

The event was presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 3 February 2017.  Activities of Future Farmers included 1) student skill competitions in various areas of Agriculture, Animal Science, Aquaculture, and Agro Industries, 2) academic seminars on Thailand 4.0, Smart Farmer, Smart Farm; 3) exhibitions of best practices and innovations, 4) presentations of innovative research projects by students, 5) curriculum sharing among teachers, 6) study visit, and 6) Cultural performance     

The event was participated by approximately 3,000 vocational students and teachers from Thailand, and approximately 70 teachers and students from vocational schools and colleges under SEA-TVET Consortium from Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, and Korea.

Expressed by the Director of Centre of International Vocational Education Cooperation of OVEC, Thailand, Mrs. Puttachard Suphalucksana, through FFT, Thailand wants to build awareness and love of younger generation, especially students of vocational education in agriculture, which has become the strength of the economic wheels in Thailand. In addition, OVEC also invited students from primary and secondary school to attend this event. "We want them to love since early the world of agriculture which become Thailand’s economic power. We want them to realize that the food was served at the table and we eat every day there because of agriculture, " said Puttachard.

Right after FFT each school in each province will disseminate their findings to the farming community in the area where their schools are located. The farmers will be invited to get the latest information related to the findings in the field of agriculture. On the other hand, through this event, OVEC wants to foster perseverance and thoroughness nurtured students in finding and utilizing technology to agriculture. This field could be a land of livelihood and entrepreneurship.
