Promoting opportunity for student teachers to teach in other countries

SEAMEO Secretariat led by director, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, and over 20 presidents/vice presidents from teacher education institutes/universities from Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines joined together in the second meeting of a project titled, “Pre-service student teacher exchange in Southeast Asia” (SEA-Teacher Project) and signed an agreement for the second batch of student teachers practicum exchange.

The Meeting took place at Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University on 27 February 2016. The morning session focused on evaluation of the first batch student exchange activities which was during January – February 2016 while the afternoon were a discussion on collaboration of the second batch exchanging pre-service student teachers, which expect to begin in August 2016, in Southeast Asia Countries for practicum.

This is the first time in Southeast Asia in exchanging of pre-service student teachers to do their practicum among the universities within the region. The project aims for pre-service student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy, to practice English skills and to gain a broader regional and world view.

The first batch were students in area of teaching maths, English and science from Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage (VRU), Pathumthani, Thailand and Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), Indonesia. The duration is one month, starting from January - February 2016.

The second batch will be started by sending 2 pre-service teacher education students to institution partners for 1 month (equivalent to 2 credit semester) starting August 2016 to do practicum in the school networks of hosting universities.
