Science and Mathematics Education

1. SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM), Malaysia

Since its inauguration in 1967, RECSAM has assisted in the principal development of educational manpower and served as catalyst for the advancement of science and mathematics education for its Member Countries. There are five main modes of professional development programmes offered by RECSAM, namely; Regular Courses, Customised Courses, Third Country Training Programmes, In-Country Courses and training workshops.

Regular Courses are four week courses that run according to a set schedule throughout the year. The centre also offers four in-country trainings per fiscal year to member countries so that teachers/teacher educators can be trained in their own countries. Customized Courses are held in response to special needs of Member Countries and other agencies. These special tailor-made programme of varying duration may be held in-country or at the centre. Third Country Training Programmes (TCTP) are collaborative programme between the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and sponsoring agencies (such as Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Colombo Plan Secretariat) in the development of human capital in the developing countries. RECSAM serves as the implementing agency for the professional development of Science and Mathematics educators. RECSAM also organizes workshops facilitated by the centre's specialists as well as visiting consultants.

2. SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel(QITEP) in Mathematics, Indonesia

The SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics is located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and was launched on 13 July 2009. The Centre promotes programmes and activities in improving the quality of teachers and education personnel in the area of Mathematics thru training courses, workshops, research, information dissemination, publications and other activities related to the needs of Southeast Asia in area of mathematics education.

3. SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel(QITEP) in Science, Indonesia

Hosted by the Ministry of National Education Indonesia, the SEAMEO QITEP for Science offers courses and training programmes for educators and teachers development. Located in Bandung, the centre promotes programmes and activities in improving the quality of teachers and education personnel in the area of Science.
