Since 1970, SEAMEO REFCON has been promoting education, capacity building, research and information about dissemination in food and nutrition across Southeast Asia. As a step towards sustainable human resource development the centre trains nutritionists, health professionals and personnel from other nutrition related disciplines in planning, executing and evaluating nutrition policies and interventions. Consultative and advisory services and research studies are on micronutrients, nutrition in health and diseases, food safety, food security, nutritional status assessment, community health and nutrition system are few initiative programmes that are conducted by the centre.

Courses/programmes offered:

  • Conduct research on maternal & child nutrition to obtain evidence in minimizing early childhood vulnerability
  • Capacity Building of pre-school teachers to deliver nutrition education for preschool children and parents
  • Enhancing laboratory support for research on maternal & child nutrition
  • Disseminating information & advocacy about evidence to minimize childhood vulnerability for pre-school children
  • Partnership and technical support to improve maternal and child nutrition in SEA region
  • Conduct research on health nutrition & food safety, improvement of school aged children through school to obtain evidence in minimizing barriers to inclusion
  • Implement nutrition improvement for school-aged children through school based nutrition education at multiple level to minimize barriers to inclusion
  • Disseminating information  on evidence to minimize barriers to inclusion to basic education in terms of nutrition, health & food safety
  • Conduct training for school's community (teachers and parents) in collaboration with other institution related to school-based food safety, also personal hygiene and sanitation
  • Harmonization in food and nutrition higher education in SEA region
  • Ensuring availability of nutrition trainings for food and nutrition professionals in SEA region which cater the need of the SEA Region
  • Harmonization in nutrition research in SEA region
  • Implement school's curriculum reform and harmonization towards nutrition
